Verdict

THE CALABRESE (7) was strong first-up over the 1000m journey, closing off well late behind an in-form galloper. The wide draw this time is a little niggle, though he was a winner second-up in his debut campaign. Can storm home over the top to return to winning form. HEDAWOOD (11) looks a progressive type, finishing 1.3L away most recently when getting a long way back here last time out. Tougher here, but Pike rides again and he has plenty of improvement to come. Can storm down the outside to land the knockout blow. LATE ARRIVAL (5) built through the grades nicely last time in work and will be fitter for a recent trial. Showed good early speed early last campaign and he'll put his best foot forward. BRAVE STRIKE (1) is in this on her best form and is a two-time winner first-up in the past. MANTUA (8) can improve now out to this trip.
