MORDECAI (1) last appeared over this distance three runs ago when he bolted in at this circuit on Melbourne Cup Day. Struggled since in longer races but can bounce back in this more suitable contest. SOUTHAVEN (9) made it three minor placings from four runs this prep when he led until the dying stages over the mile at Rockhampton last time out. Very fit gelding with good stats here at this trip. Looks the obvious danger. CHAPARRAL CHASE (2) raced handy but didn't quite finish the race off over 1600m at Rockhampton recently. Draws a lovely gate and can improve on that last effort without surprising. Progressive three-year-old MAYOR OF KINGSTON (10) won his maiden at Rockhampton last time out and looks ready to tackle this better race. KHAMIS (11) is out of form but her best form puts her right in this.
