Verdict

The feature of the day in SA is the Listed Hill Smith Stakes, which produced the G1 VRC Derby winner last year. Several stables are well represented, including Tony and Calvin McEvoy, who are sending GEE TEE (8) across the border. She broke her maiden over 1400m and then was OK over 1600m last start. She's drawn low and bred to enjoy the step to 1800m. She can measure up. SAFE BET (2) won a sit and sprint affair against several of his rivals over 1600m last start. He's a progressive type from an astute stable so must be respected. KALMANA (1) is a multiple winner, although she's suspect at 1800m She looks one of the likely leaders so she will give herself a chance from the front.
