Verdict
CABLE ROCK (2) is coming off a third in NMW1Y grade at Ascot after another strong run when second in 1MW company at this track. His record at this track and distance, plus the Holly Watson association, gives him a clear platform. RETURN OF THE MACH (6) is the main danger after going under by just over half a length at Northam, and her proven 1300m record is a positive. Watch for her late in the race. I'M ODETTE (3) is a sharper fresh chance than her last-start margin suggests, having won a CL1 at this track before spelling and trialled third at Lark Hill. Has plenty of upside and can resume on a positive note. VON ROMMEL (5) is less exposed, won his debut Mdn at Northam despite being held up near the 200m, and has enough upside to hold a genuine place in the chances if he handles 1300m for the first time. SUPERB VINTAGE (7) can be in the finish off a short break.

VerdictWent very close at Northam last start, finishing third and beaten just over half a length after settling back, covering ground and only being pipped late. She now comes from provincial grade to a harder meeting, but the run had clear substance. Her previous Ascot effort in 1 Metro Win grade is easier to forgive after being held up on the home turn.
