Gold Coast

Verdict

DRAW ATTENTION (2) is the one to beat after winning over 1800m at the Sunshine Coast as a short odds-on favourite, travelling well and doing enough late. Her third in a CL1 at this track two runs back also had merit given the interference, and the 3kg claim helps offset the new 2235m assignment. LORD PROTECTOR (7) brings a strong BM70 fourth from Sunshine Coast, where he was again doing his best work late. The drop back to a BM62 gives him a genuine winning avenue. BILLS ANGEL (6) was beaten a length and a half as a well-supported favourite at Gold Coast Poly and has already won at this track. No reason he can't go one better back on the turf. DECARBONISE (8) has improved with racing this campaign, was close up in a BM58 at Gatton after being steadied. Fitter and can play a role at the light weight. DISGRUNTLED (5) brings winning form after getting off the mark in style at the Sunny Coast. Has the scope to go on with the job now.

Won at Sunshine Coast over 1800m last start, travelling sweetly and lifting late to beat Clubman by a long neck as a short odds-on favourite. That built on a sound Class 1 third at this track where she was interfered with in the run and still finished close up. First look at 2235m is the query, but her current form makes her the one to beat.

Broke through in a Mdn at Sunshine Coast last start, letting down quickly and beating Highland Kitty by just over three lengths despite racing wide and laying out in the straight. She had earlier made ground from well back when fifth in a Mdn at this track. Strong place profile if she carries that form into BM62 grade.

    Verdict
Backs up after a solid BM70 fourth at Sunshine Coast last week, beaten just under two lengths by Prochester after making ground from well back at generous odds. His Gatton fifth as favourite the run prior was less clean after an awkward start and covering ground. Strong winning chance off that run.

    Verdict
Was safely held in BM78 Saturday company at Eagle Farm last start, finishing sixth behind Captain Maverick and beaten just over seven lengths at generous odds. The easier meeting and grade relief help, while his prior Eagle Farm fifth had more merit after racing keenly and being held up near the 600m. Still, he is winless this season and has to lift sharply. Not this time.

Went close at Gold Coast Poly last start, travelling well and finishing second to Fierce Luva, beaten a length and a half as a well-supported favourite. She was only beaten just under three lengths at Eagle Farm two back and had Lord Protector behind her there. First 2235m attempt is the only real query.

    Verdict
Finished third in a BM66 at Lismore last start, beaten just over three lengths after moving into the race but not sustaining the effort. This is a harder meeting than that country run, even with some grade relief on paper. His prior Grafton fourth in Class 1 company was honest without being decisive, and he looks more a place fringe than a winning play. Preferring others.

    Verdict
Comes back quickly after finishing last in a Class 4 at this track over 1724m, beaten just under five lengths after beginning slowly and settling well back. His Lismore fourth in a BM66 two runs ago was better, with a slow start and a hold-up near the 500m adding context. He handles wet ground, but three unplaced tries around 2235m and 59.5kg leave him as a minor hope only. Looking to others for the winner.

    Verdict
Has improved with each run this campaign and was close up in a BM58 at Gatton last start, finishing third to Quality Miss and beaten a length and a half after being bumped early and steadied near the 600m. His previous Class 3 fourth at this track came when unwanted in the market but still solid. Handles wet ground and profiles as an each-way hope.
