ARCTIC JEWEL (3) sat at the back and made up a lot of ground when fresh at Timaru last month. Fitter for the run and can improve if staying a bit handier here. BRUTAL RIFF (1) was swamped late when fresh on the synthetic then boxed on well from midfield to beat the rest, but the leader had bolted last time. Danger from the nice gate here. NOVELETTE (7) won at this track and trip back in March when charging home from midfield. Respect after two quiet trials. I AM NUTZ (2) booted through to lead from the pole and was swamped late when fresh. Placed 1 of 2 second-up and none of 3 first-up. NOCKINGATTHEDOOR (6) ran on well from the rear at Timaru last start in a return to form. Chance to stay a bit handier from the good draw here.
