Verdict

Nice race this between the top two. MARSEPT (2) returns for team Hawkes and shoulders an attractive form-profile, ending last campaign with a Flemington placing as fav behind Wise Inlaw. Her Geelong win over Varadero prior was dominant, and before that she was a length off the now G1-placed Extragalactic. Will take plenty of stitching fresh. LAYLA (6) rates the clear main danger. She was a dominant track-and-trip winner here back in Jan to get off the mark, before being sent to town to tackle a handy field at Flemington. All signs point to a bold return after two smart Flem jumpouts. ILLUMINANCE (5) backs up quickly and boasts the fitness edge. Has a handy record on the home track and loves this trip. Deserves respect. Also can't leave BRUTAL WORLD (7) out of the numbers as she shoots for the hat-trick.

Returns from a six-month break with the right form for this, having ended last campaign second in Open company at Flemington when favourite and beaten two lengths by Wise Inlaw after being run down late. She had earlier beaten Varadero by just over three lengths in a Geelong Mdn as a dominant odds-on favourite. Brings the strongest winning case.

    Verdict
Returns from a lengthy eight-month spell and has been brought along with a Flemington trial win two weeks ago. She signed off last campaign with a flat Open run at Flemington, but her previous start was a five-length Mdn win at this track when heavily supported into very short odds-on territory. Dominant track-and-trip Mdn winner last campaign and a leading threat.

    Verdict
Backs up quickly after finishing ninth in a BM62 at Pakenham, beaten three and a half lengths, but stewards noted she raced wide and was held up near the 400m. Her previous run was a solid second at this track in BM62 grade, beaten two lengths by Aradeo, and her record of one win and two placings from three starts at this track and distance is a major positive. Strong track-and-trip record keeps her firmly in the each-way mix.

    Verdict
Arrives in winning form after taking a BM56 at Kyneton by a length as a well-supported favourite, picking up strongly to beat Yellowknife. She had also won at Donald the run prior, scoring by just under two lengths from Flux, so the current form line is sound. Class rise is the test, but she is fit and in the right form.

    Verdict
Returns from a three-month break after winning a Mornington Mdn on soft ground, beating Zovozo by just under a length despite racing wide throughout. That followed a Caulfield Class 3 eighth at big odds, beaten just under three lengths after being held up passing the 300m. Has had two trials and profiles as a place chance.

    Verdict
Charged home from well back for fifth at this track in a BM62 last start, beaten just over half a length, and that was a sharp return after a plain Flemington M BM78 run when last and unwanted in the market. Weight relief helps her place claims.

    Verdict
Won first-up at Echuca in a Mdn, coming from a long way back to beat Sibun by half a length despite a slow start and trouble getting clear near the 250m. The effort had merit, but she now moves from a country Mdn into a stronger BM66 and is still lightly exposed against seasoned older rivals. Must find another level.

    Verdict
Returns from a four-month break after ending last campaign second last in a Sale BM62 on heavy ground, beaten just over six lengths at long odds without a clear excuse. His Geelong seventh prior was also plain after being near the top of betting. Others bring stronger race form.
