Verdict

ASTROGAZER (4) has found form at the right time, backing a solid Muswellbrook third with a close Goulburn second on soft ground when sent out favourite. He handles rain-affected going, has a win at this distance and brings the most reliable recent profile. SNAP DECISION (2) is the proven this-track mile winner, and his Albury sixth came in BM66 grade, so the class drop and quick back-up give him a clear rebound case. ZIPPY LION (8) had excuses in a CL1 at Canberra after jumping awkwardly and being held up, while his Moruya Mdn win two back showed he is still progressing. GUNFIGHTER ROAD (5) resumed with a sound BM55 fourth at Canberra and has a strong overall record for a lightly raced horse, though this is a sharper assignment. SPLENDID MAGNUS (10) won't be far away.

Drops back from a BM66 at Albury, where he was sixth and beaten just under five lengths after settling rearward and losing ground by the turn. His previous run is the key, charging home to beat Showmara by half a length at this track. On the quick turnaround and can get back to form with the drop in grade.

Built neatly into this with a close second at Goulburn on soft ground, beaten just under a length by Cha Cha Cha after being slow away but still letting down well. The run prior at Muswellbrook was also honest, leading and holding third over 1750m. Just missed last start and looks poised to go one better in what looks a suitable event on the back of that performance.

    Verdict
Closed in on Snap Decision when third at this track last start, beaten just over half a length after travelling well behind the speed. He had genuine excuses at Goulburn two back, being held up around the turn and tightened late when only two and a half lengths away. Wet-track strike-rate is the query, but he maps as a genuine place chance.

    Verdict
Resumed with a sound fourth in a BM55 at Canberra, beaten just under two lengths by Roonami after settling back and working home evenly. His overall record is still lightly raced and reliable, with one win and two places from five starts, and he is already a winner at this track. Solid on debut and can build on the platform he laid fresh.

    Verdict
Had more go wrong than the result shows in a Class 1 at Canberra last start, jumping awkwardly before being held up and tightened when fifth, beaten just over six lengths. His Moruya Mdn win two back had merit, fighting off Reveillon by half a length. comes through a nice race last time out and looks well placed in this event.

    Verdict
Eases sharply from a BM74 at Moruya, where she finished fifth and was beaten six lengths after working home evenly at generous odds. Two back she was safely held in a BM64 at Hawkesbury, so the recent margins temper confidence. Recent margins are plain, so place claims look the right level.

Had excuses at Wagga Riverside last start, slow away, bumped and forced wide before racing wide throughout, yet still finishing fourth and beaten two and a half lengths in a BM50. Her previous Class 1 effort at Goulburn was plain at big odds. Won't be far away.

    Verdict
Ran third in a BM55 at Canberra last start, but the margin was nine lengths and he was only grinding home from well back. His previous fifth at this track was closer, beaten a length and a half by Snap Decision at long odds, so there is a local form line to work with. Back to the mile helps, but he has plenty to overturn.

Finished sixth at Goulburn last start, beaten just over three lengths by Cha Cha Cha at generous odds, after settling back and never getting close. His prior seventh at this track was only two lengths from Snap Decision, though he again started long odds. Capable of improving, yet others look sharper.

Returns from a lengthy spell after a wide run at Bathurst, where she finished seventh and was beaten eight and a half lengths on heavy ground. She had also been well held as favourite in a BM50 at Canberra Acton two back. First try at the mile and recent figures leave her with plenty to find.

Finished sixth at Queanbeyan last week, beaten four lengths after racing keenly and battling from the turn. That followed a tenth in a BM55 at Canberra when long odds and unable to make ground, with stewards again noting keenness. Blinkers come off, but others bring stronger mile form.

Was unwanted in the market and finished last at Goulburn, beaten six and a half lengths after beginning slowly and settling rearward. He had been fourth at Wagga two back, but that also came at big odds and he covered ground. Past track form is noted, but current figures are well short.

    Verdict
Kept on for fifth at Goulburn last start, beaten three lengths by Cha Cha Cha, after racing just off the lead without quite quickening. Her Canberra second two back in a BM55 was better, finishing strongly when beaten just over a length by Roonami. Minor claims only.
