MASAKARI (2) gets the nod after a fourth at this track that reads better than the bare result, with stewards noting he raced keenly, was steadied and then had difficulty getting clear approaching the 200m. His Tatura third on soft ground two back was sound and a recent Wangaratta trial adds a useful fitness pointer. HOLD THIS (1) is the obvious danger after missing by a nose behind Ring Of Fire at this venue, and his three placings from three tries around 1600m give him a reliable profile despite the top weight. TASSY FOX (14) is less convincing on recent finishing effort, but the blinkers go on for the first time and her one previous 1600m placing keeps her in the place mix. THE ULTIMATE STAR (4) finished sixth last start, beaten 3.5 lengths at Cootamundra over 1400m. Can figure in the finish.
